Dustin Hoffman plays a regular American mathematician, who gets into some trouble with local bullies. He is made fun of and then his wife is raped. When they attack his home, he fights back. His outbreak of violence is extreme.

David, un uomo tranquillo, si trasferisce in campagna con la moglie, la quale però non sopporta quel posto ed il fatto che il marito non reagisca alle provocazioni dei ragazzi del luogo. Quando questi cercano di violentare la moglie e dopo aver investito involontariamente uno di loro, David, assediato, li uccide uno per uno.
